For navigation with a motorhome over 3.5 tons, it proves helpful if the navigation app, such as MagicEarth (free of charge) or Sygic (chargeable), allows you to enter tonnage and dimensions, especially height, and select the appropriate route accordingly.

Cell phone or tablet

A cell phone as a navigation device in the field of vision is nice, but it may not be as readable in every situation as a tablet, which offers a better overview thanks to its larger display. However, available space is usually in short supply and integration into the dashboard is the more ideal solution than minimizing the field of vision through the windshield.

Assembly location

After the dashboard of the Flair 7100 was completely redesigned, an iPad finds its central place below the vehicle fan control. Equally accessible to the driver and passenger, the map and relevant route and turn-by-turn information can be visually recorded, in addition to the audio messages.

GPS reception

The GPS data is transmitted via the here The GPS signal amplifier described (frequency range 1575 .. 1602 MHz), which is installed below the ventilation unit, virtually in the immediate vicinity, is transmitted to the GPS reception module of the iPad.
The GPS antenna itself is glued to the inside of the windshield about 10 cm from the top edge of the windshield and thus has a perfect view of the various publicly available GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems), such as the globally usable 31 satellites of the American GPS (1575 MHz), 23 Russian GLONASS (Global navigation sputnikovaya system – 1602 MHz) and 23 European GALILEO, named after the first name of the Italian philosopher, mathematician, physicist and astronomer Galileo Galileo (1564–1642).

Technology differences

Basically, all satellite systems send the same “signals”. The difference lies in the accuracy of the resulting position data.

The simultaneous support of the American and Russian systems not only enables a certain degree of reliability, but also a much more precise calculation of the location.

The coverage, especially of the high northern regions, is also much better thanks to the 9.8° greater inclination towards the orbit of the GLONASS satellites than with the correspondingly flatter GPS satellites. GLONASS also uses two frequency bands and thus compensates for differences in transit times in the ionosphere, which in turn increases accuracy.
