Victron GX Tank 140

Reading time 3 minutes

Updated – April 18, 2023

The GX Tank 140 from Victron allows the connection of up to four tank sensors with current or voltage-controlled measuring output, as well as the voltage-controlled sensors from CBE that are often installed in motorhomes.

Sensor output (CBE)

  • brown (GND -)
  • white (V+)
  • green (signal V out +)

Sensor input (GX Tank 140)

  • 1 – white (V out +)
  • 2 – green (signal IN +)
  • 3 – brown (GND -)

cabling

For connecting the sensor to the respective terminal block of the GX Tank 140 Control line LiYCY shielded 4 x 0.25 mm2 recommended. If possible, the cable route should be chosen with a parallel distance to existing cables.

Please note that for the sensors on terminal blocks I and II, an external power supply similar to that of the sensors used must be connected to the two-pole terminal block on the left (e.g. 5 V or 12V DC).
Terminal blocks II and IV, on the other hand, are supplied internally with 24 V DC.

The connection is 1:1, ie on the GX Tank 140 terminal block I, connection 1 is to be connected to the first from the left with the white cable, the middle with green and the right with brown. The same connection sequence applies to blocks II .. IV, provided identical sensors are connected.

configuration

As soon as the Victron GX Tank 140 has been connected to the Victron Cerbo GX via a permanently attached USB cable, the configuration can be carried out via the Victron Cerbo GX touch panel Settings and the new device entries.

Is the entry Connected with Yes occupied, can be found below Surname the sensor can be designated with an individual name. Clicking on the arrow at the top left takes you back one level.

Under the menu item Set up Further settings can be made:

The point is helpful for checking functionality SensorValue. If the tank is partially full, a voltage value should be displayed here. If it says 0.0 V, either the sensor connection or the 5 V power supply is not present.
The two-pin 5 V terminal terminal seems to cause contact problems from time to time. To test, the cable connected to the terminal block should be checked for continuity before connecting to the power supply.
The plus connection has a resistance to the Vout-connections. The negative line has continuity on all other GND connections. If an interruption is detected here, the corresponding cable must be removed from the terminal block, stripped of the insulation for longer if necessary and plugged in again, or a larger conductor cross-section of 0.5 ... 0.75 mm2 to use.

Basically have to be set Tank capacity and that Filling medium, as well as the voltage value when the tank is full (usually corresponding to the supply voltage of the sensor).

In the overall overview, the fill levels then appear as follows:
