VPN – Teltonika RUTX50

Anyone who needs access via VPN to the network behind the Teltonika RUTX50 while on the go may fail because the documentation of the current version RUTX_R_00.07.06.1 has not yet been adapted to the new firmware and GUI design.

A workaround can currently be to use the OpenVPN service CloudConnexa which is free with up to three simultaneous connections. The only difference in performance between the paid packages is the possible number of simultaneous connections.

Set up

Set up VPN server on RUTX50

After logging in to the GUI of the RUTX50:

  • SERVICES -> VPN -> OpenVPN
  • Add new instance: New configuration name names awarded and under Role server choose by clicking on ADD confirm
  • Activate the newly created server in the following GUI window: Enable -> ON
  • Activate configuration via configuration file upload: Enable OpenVPN config from file -> ON

CloudConnexa

  • On CloudConnexa to register and log in
  • From the left menu Networks choose, again Networks click and the button Add Network click.
  • The middle point Site to site click and with Continue confirm.
  • On the following GUI page Define Network a names assigned for the network, from which Country list Select the desired location and click on Next confirm.
  • On the following GUI page, scroll down from the Connector Type list and select Teltonika.
  • The configuration file can now be accessed by clicking on the button Download OVPN file Loading.

RUTX50 – Install configuration file

Continuing the setup of the VPN server on the RUTX50 discussed at the beginning, the loaded configuration file can now be opened by clicking on the button Browse to the right OpenVPN configuration file the same must be selected and installed on the router.

By clicking on Save & Apply the configuration is saved and activated.

If on CloudConnexa at Networks - Networks the network you just created On-line should also be included in the RUTX50 Services – VPN – OpenVPN the one who creates server with status Active appear.

CloudConnexa – Add network devices

  • Under Networks - Networks click on the created network.
  • Above the rider IP Services click.
  • On the new GUI page the button Add route click.
  • Under CreateRoute Enter the IP address or subnet of the internal network (e.g. 192.168.70.0/24).
  • By clicking on the button Add route confirm.

Set up VPN client on iOS

On the iOS (or Android) device, the app OpenVPN Install, open and log in. The app obtains the required ones from the OpenVPN server CloudConnexa.

By activating the VPN connection on the mobile device, access to the remote network in the defined address range is now possible.
