MaxxFan – conversion kit

Reading time 3 minutes

The company offers for the MaxxFan Deluxe Caravan seals a conversion kit. While in the original state of the MaxxFan a noticeable draft can be felt when closed, this conversion seal set helps to create an effective seal.

Two rubber profiles are supplied, which are normally applied from the outside instead of the existing edge protection profiles.

Since the profiles seal very well, regular ventilation and CO2-Value should be respected. The easiest way to do this is to use a CO2-measuring device that shows the current CO load, the trend and gives an alarm if there is a critical CO2-Contamination has arisen (which, by the way, happens more quickly than is generally assumed) and also shows temperature, humidity and prehistoric times.

Disassembly/assembly – normally

After loosening the two screws connecting the air inlet grille to the hinge and disengaging the two sliding rollers on the hood linkage from the inside, the hood can be folded down completely.

First, the existing edge protection profiles must be removed. Adhesive or possibly torn rubber residues can be easily removed with a cutter knife.

The short, thicker sealing profile, with the rubber bead pointing outwards, is placed precisely onto the recess in place of the long edge protection profile that has just been removed and pressed firmly firmly. It's best to start at the ends and press the profile evenly, moving from the ends to the middle.

Close to one end of this profile, the thinner, long sealing profile continues all around. Since the profile is slightly longer than necessary, the final length must be adjusted accordingly.
Since the straight line in front of the round corner only offers just under one centimeter of support for the sealing profile and it tends to always stand out from the edge, this must be glued on. Otherwise you run the risk of it becoming permanently loose and preventing the hood from closing.

The normal case is now complete, the outer grille can be screwed back onto the hinge with the two screws and the rollers can be inserted into the rails provided on the inside.

... and in special cases

The special case is when you can no longer access the roof hatches from the outside, for example because you have installed PV modules above them, which on the one hand protect the hood from hail, and on the other hand the entire roof area is used for PV modules despite the hoods can be.

The sealing profiles can also be installed in this case and can even be done from the inside in rain, snow or storm!

However, since you only have a very limited manual action radius here and the corners are outside of that, you are well advised to adapt the thinner, long rubber profile to the length that corresponds to the straight line between the round corners.
What may initially seem disadvantageous, however, has an advantage: the resulting “air holes” prevent an almost hermetic air seal and a certain, albeit significantly minimized, forced ventilation is still possible.

First, the inner ventilation grille must be released by turning the four locks. A good opportunity to clear it of accumulated dust, etc.

After loosening the Torx Allen screw, the fan impeller must then be removed from the motor shaft (and also cleaned).

After - manually - turning up the hood, the existing edge protection profiles can be removed. When loosening the bonds, proceed as carefully as possible in order to largely avoid having to subsequently remove rubber residues using a cutter knife.

First, as described above, the thick profile is placed with the bead facing outwards, clamped on and pressed into place. This is followed by the thinner profiles cut to the length of the respective straight line all around, starting and ending shortly before the corner rounding.

On the hinge side, start in the middle and, after about four or five centimeters, align the sealing profile so that it ends on the right and left just before the start of the respective bend. Only then do you press it completely onto the edge. To do this, you reach over the linkage of the hood and at the ends over the respective bearing. Anyone who has narrow hands and long fingers has a clear advantage here. If in doubt, there may also be slim female hands that can help.

Finally, you check whether the hood closes properly - manually - and then test the electrical actuation.

If everything is running satisfactorily, the fan wheel can be put back on the shaft and the Torx Allen screw can be tightened. Make sure that the wheel is pushed onto the shaft oils as far as it will go to avoid dragging on the fly screen attachment.

Finally, install the fly screen and return the four locks to their original position.
