Fiat Ducato 244 – Low beam failure

Reading time 3 minutes

Updated – November 2, 2023

The failure of low beam, fog lights and instrument lighting on the Fiat Ducato 244 can have several causes, which are described below.
Illustrations regarding the security locations are taken from the original manual for illustration purposes.
The excerpts of the circuit diagram come from the Windows program e-Learn FIAT Ducato. All circuit diagrams are available for download as a PDF by clicking on them.

Fuses

Fuses can be found on the driver's side to the left of the steering column (CFB), including fuse tweezers (D), on the right on the passenger side under the glove compartment (CFO), each behind removable plastic covers, and in the engine compartment on the driver's side (CVM) under one, using a Torx screw (b) attached to the fuse/relay housing, unlockable (C) Plastic cover (D) and attached to the left of the fuse holder directly to the positive pole of the battery (CBA).

To get straight to the point: the 5 A fuse (F 24 – CFB) was the culprit.

But there are also connectors on the steering column (under the top and bottom covers, as well as at the bottom of the switch unit (hazard lights, fog lights, ABS) that can trigger the same phenomenon due to oxidation. Contact spray and repeated unplugging and plugging clears the error. provided all backups are innocent.

The 150 A fuse (F 70 - CBA) connected upstream of the relay for the left and right low beam, as well as the 10 A fuses connected upstream of the relay contact 87 (T02) (30) and the low beam lamps (F 14 and F 15 CVM ), are usually not the cause of the problem.

The relay T02 (CVM) is located directly below the two fuses F 24 and F 14 (CVM).

The fuse F 24 is noted here - and can therefore also be traced to the cause...!

relay

Relays can be tested quite easily by applying 12 V DC to coil contacts 85 and 86: If they switch when voltage is applied and continuity can be measured between the relay contacts, the relay is functional.
