You should be able to expect a shower tray for 475 euros RRP from the manufacturer not to become brittle at regular intervals. This also applies to the shower corner paneling, which is also subject to renewal due to various removal and installation in order to ultimately be able to replace the shower tray.
A stainless steel shower tray provides a permanent solution TGA GmbH for 425.55 euros, custom-made, measuring around 70 x 60 cm, more generous than the original shower tray, with a slanted right corner, 120 mm high, with a hole and recess for the water drainage.
Removing the old shower tray after removing the corner paneling is easy due to the recessed tray recess compared to the external dimensions.
The installation of the stainless steel shower tray, which is technically identical but nevertheless more voluminous, can be inserted into the shower room at chest height after loosening the ceiling and rear wardrobe screws and bending the right wardrobe or left shower wall slightly to the left Sliding downwards into the final position.
The drain should be replaced with a larger, conventional sink drain. These drains adapt to the drain recess of the stainless steel shower tray. Adapting the different connection diameters is relatively easy.
All flat butt joints are sealed Fermit, a tough-elastic, adhesive sealant that fills unevenness and whose residues that overflow when the connections are tightened can be removed without leaving any residue.
The standard odor trap, which is prone to clogging, can be removed from the pipe system and replaced by a pipe guide angled at an angle of 2x 45° to compensate for the height difference between the pipe system and the sink drain. The water remaining in the lower part of the pipe now serves as an odor trap - which is largely immune to blockages.
A fine hair sieve should be a must, as it saves you from a lot of subsequent cleaning work.
The first option for consistently waterproof wall cladding is a lining with PVC flooring, which is glued in one piece to the existing shower walls with Pattex. Work neatly in the corners and make sure that the beginning is glued absolutely vertically - once it's on and it's tight!
For the ceiling cladding, an identical replica of the existing plywood ceiling element is made. With the exception of the front edge, the dimensions of the plywood cut are reduced by the thickness of the surrounding PVC covering. A cut piece of PVC flooring is glued to this.
The new, coated plywood shower ceiling is pressed against the existing ceiling using a few silicone “blobs” and pressed by two “third hands” clamped between the shower tray floor and the ceiling plate. The all-round seam between the ceiling and walls is neatly sealed with color-matched silicone seam.
The single-lever mixer can be installed in the left shower side wall at an ergonomic height. The only requirement for this is a pot hole of the appropriate diameter. The old opening can be closed flush with a plywood panel cut to size and is no longer noticeable behind the applied PVC interior cladding.
When choosing the new installation location, pay attention to the limiting hose connections or use new, sufficiently long pieces of hose.
A HansGrohe shower set ensures a homely shower feeling. After lowering the shower head holder, the 90 cm shower rail also allows children to shower with less splashes or simply hand wash without everything being submerged in water.
The existing halogen shower lighting, which is attached to the corner panel, can be replaced during the conversion with a light that is glued to a suitable aluminum profile. IP67 Led strip can be replaced as long as there is a gap of around 3 mm to the ceiling.
Acrylic glass cuts in selectable colors are available Nordic panels at reasonable prices and in good quality in a thickness of 3 mm, which is quite enough for this purpose.
These are glued onto the PVC covering with transparent silicone in strip intervals of approx. 10 cm. Press well to squeeze the silicone strips nice and wide and achieve good adhesion. Finally, seal the abutting edges with a thin, transparent silicone seam and smooth it out with dish soap and a squeegee.
