Motorhomes without a permanently mounted rear ladder with PV modules, satellite or air conditioning systems on the roof pose a challenge if the same structures need to be repaired while on the move. A telescopic ladder provides an easy solution here.

It should be a stable ladder, long enough so that you don't have to perform acrobatic feats in the last few centimeters and, ideally, it should also be designed in such a way that you don't get your fingers caught when pushing it together.

So what is needed once again is the jack-of-all-trades.

The solution

The telescopic ladder is a good compromise between price and performance Craftful CF-101B with softClose and 410 cm extended or compact 95 cm retracted length. The three-year manufacturer's guarantee speaks for itself. The weight of 11 kg is also in the lower range and is still acceptable for transport in a motorhome, despite all the weight problems.

The ladder is attached using red rubber alfer wall and ceiling hooks, whose horizontal upper part is bent just below the transition of the bending radius to the vertical. The holders can be screwed to the motorhome wall using the two remaining holes in the holders.

bracket

Since a motorhome wall is usually not solid, but simply consists of a thin aluminum “lining” glued to a few millimeters thin plywood panel and subsequent insulating foam, it is recommended to choose a screen-printed panel of around 19 mm as the substructure. This is best glued flat to the inner wall of the rear garage if no other more “solid” surface is available.
Here the ladder was securely attached to the back wall of the doghouse made of screen-printed board using the wall hooks mentioned above.

The ladder standing on the ground is removed by pulling it forward to the threshold of the rear door, whereby the ladder is pulled out of the hook holders and released for removal by tilting it to the side.

In order to avoid scratching or aluminum traces on the usually white exterior paintwork of the motorhome or attachments such as awnings, you can slide conventional gray pipe insulation with an inner diameter of 40 mm (corresponding to the step width) over the respective step. Before putting the ladder on, turn the slot in the insulation forward so that the step cannot push out through it when climbing the ladder and damage the paintwork.
