Ottobeurenu v Bavorsku. Jeho rodina \u017eila v skromn\u00fdch pom\u011brech.<br>Otec <em>Xaver<\/em> byla Weberov\u00e1, matka <em>Rosina<\/em> postarali se o mnoho d\u011bt\u00ed. Jak bylo tehdy v rolnick\u00fdch d\u011blnick\u00fdch rodin\u00e1ch zvykem, Sebastian brzy pom\u00e1hal jako pas\u00e1\u010dek a pomocn\u00edk tkalce \u2013 o \u0161koln\u00ed doch\u00e1zce nemohla b\u00fdt t\u00e9m\u011b\u0159 \u0159e\u010d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nicm\u00e9n\u011b touhu st\u00e1t se kn\u011bzem vytrvale sledoval. Ve 23 letech mu kaplan umo\u017enil <em>Matthias Merkle<\/em> pozdn\u00edho vstupu na gymn\u00e1zium a Kneipp doh\u00e1n\u011bl to, co se jin\u00ed nau\u010dili jako d\u011bti. Od roku 1848 studoval teologii v Dillingenu a Mnichov\u011b.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>B\u011bhem studi\u00ed onemocn\u011bl tuberkul\u00f3zou. P\u0159i hled\u00e1n\u00ed \u00falevy narazil na spis l\u00e9ka\u0159e <em>Johann Siegemund Hahn<\/em>, kter\u00fd p\u0159ipisoval l\u00e9\u010div\u00e9 \u00fa\u010dinky aplikac\u00edm studen\u00e9 vody. Kneipp si metodu vyzkou\u0161el s\u00e1m na sob\u011b koup\u00e1n\u00edm v Dunaji a p\u0159ipsal sv\u016fj uzdraven\u00ed t\u00e9to praxi. V roce 1852 byl vysv\u011bcen na kn\u011bze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Po n\u011bkolika letech p\u016fsoben\u00ed jako kaplan p\u0159i\u0161el v roce 1855 do dominik\u00e1nsk\u00e9ho kl\u00e1\u0161tera ve W\u00f6rishofenu jako zpov\u011bdn\u00edk. Zde d\u00e1le rozv\u00edjel sv\u00e9 vodol\u00e9\u010debn\u00e9 postupy a st\u00e1le \u010dast\u011bji l\u00e9\u010dil pacienty z okol\u00ed. Po\u010det n\u00e1v\u0161t\u011bvn\u00edk\u016f neust\u00e1le rostl a od 80. let 19. stolet\u00ed se Bad W\u00f6rishofen stal zn\u00e1m\u00fdm l\u00e1ze\u0148sk\u00fdm m\u011bstem.
